De officiële subtitel van de PopUp is "Co-creating Education." De sprekers zijn: Siep Stuurman (UU), Anneke Smelik (RU), Rosemarie Buikema (UU), Maaike Bleeker (UU), Frans Willem Korsten (LU), Arjo Klamer (EUR), Janneke Wesseling (KABK), Thera Jonker (HKU) en Bald de Vries (UU).
The PopUpUniversity - Humanities Division
Have you always wanted your second BA/MA degree but you aren’t prepared to pay 14.000 euros? Or you simply do not have such financial funds? Would you like to enroll in a university, but are not a Dutch citizen or a legal resident? Have you always wanted your PhD degree but you cannot find a paid position? Are you interested in accessing academic knowledge but you do not have a student number? Then the PopUpUniversity is your answer.
This initiative is a form of academic activism in response to the budgetary reductions by the current governments and the attacks on the very idea of the university such as we have known it. Considering the short-term planning, the lack of a sensible rationale and the ad hoc nature of many of the measures being taken against the university in general and faculties of the Humanities in particular, we want to launch a counter-initiative in the form of: “The PopUpUniversity” (PUU). The purpose of this happening is to give students a taste of things to come because we believe that this quick and instant model is what our governments want to implement. And if this is the outcome? How will we students and teacher reappropriate it in a productive way?
Therefor the overall theme of this academic event will be ‘creative partnerships’. In order to survive and continue the Arts and the Humanities will need to collaborate with nonacademic partners. Moreover, they will need to re-insure their social relevance outside the University wall. Central questions that should be addressed in this edition are: What creative ways are needed to reconnect with society on a broader level? How will we survive outside the University walls? Also how will we engage affirmatively and constructively with these new changes? Which nonacademic partners should we look for in order to retain high quality and over-all accessibility of academic knowledge? Nine renowned teachers will provide short and inspiring lectures of their envisioning of these matters at hand.

What is the position of art theory in contemporary art education? And what may be expected from it? These are the central question at a conference of Dutch and Flemish theory tutors in art education at the the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KABK) in The Hague on 25 November 2011.

Book launch See it Again, Say it Again, The Artist as Researcher
On september 21, 8 PM, the book See it Again, Say it Again. The Artist as Researcher, will be launched at Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (Rozenstraat 59 Amsterdam, www.smba.nl). See it Again, Say it Again, edited by Janneke Wesseling and published by Valiz, sheds light on the phenomenon of research in the visual arts. This volume has been written from the perspective of art as practice. The majority of authors are artists, while several artists provided visual contributions that elucidate research in art. The book also includes contributions by theoreticians, who analyse how artistic research works and how it is productive. What do artists actually do when they carry out research? Does it propagate better art or a new type of art, or perhaps even a new type of artists?
See it Again, Say it Again appears in the Antennae Series of Valiz, a series intended to pinpoint new lines of thought in the arts. www.valiz.nl.

The publication See it again, Say it again. The artist as researcher wants to position the phenomenon of artistic research in the realm of art practice and stimulate discussion about the subject. Even though research in the arts is being undertaken in many art disciplines, from theater to dance and music, this book focuses on the visual arts.
The particularity of artistic research, also referred to as ‘practice based research', is that practical undertaking (making) and theoretical reflection (thinking) go hand in hand. The former cannot function without the latter and vice versa, just as in artistic practice creating and reflecting are intrinsically connected.
The emphasis of this publication is on the perspective of the artist and the practice of art, with the majority of authors being visual artists. The contributions of the theorists focus on the practice of this type of research and of this type of artistry.
The book attempts to offer different leads for the advancement of the debate on the position of artistic research, both in the artistic field and at universities. It also aims to inspire artists, art students and teachers to critically reflect on their own practice, and, at the hand of examples from art practice, stimulate the self-awareness of the research practice.
The book will be published by Valiz, Amsterdam, in the Antennae series. This series is intended to pinpoint certain phenomena or new lines of thought in the arts and to explore them by means of essays.
